Sevavardhini has been working in this sector since 2011 through the Jaldoot project. We have worked on various facets of water management in more than 50 villages till date.

The critical success factors for successful water management interventions according to our experience are:
  • Scientific approach, based on reliable data
  • Approach customized to local conditions (geology, climatic conditions, etc.)
  • Active support and involvement of local community
There are 3 major water management programs that Sevavardhini is working on at present and more are in the pipeline.

Jaldoot project (link to the Jaldoot page)
Jaldoot literally means water messenger. It refers to an energetic volunteer, who resides in the local community and has been selected by the community to work on water management. We train the Jaldoot on scientific methods of water management, and help the Jaldoot prepare a comprehensive plan (called the Village Water Safety and Security Plan – VWSSP). Depending on funding availability, we also help perform one or two project interventions to demonstrate the concept.

Rainwater harvesting (link to the RWH page)
Rainwater harvesting is the simplest and most cost-effective way to recharge rapidly receding ground water reserves. Sevavardhini has implemented several rain water harvesting projects in the villages and is keen to extend awareness and implementation all across the state and the country.

Stepwell rejuvenation (link to the Stepwell rejuvenation page)
Sevavardhini is actively involved in and is supporting the movement to rejuvenate stepwells in the country (www.indianstepwells.com). Stepwells not only have cultural and architectural significance, but they also tap into reliable ground water sources, which can be invaluable for communities.
